A case of alleged fraud involving over ₹17 lakh has surfaced after a youth was reportedly cheated on the pretext of being sent to the United States with a long-term work permit and job offer. Acting on a complaint, Kurukshetra police have registered an FIR and initiated an investigation into the matter.

According to the complaint filed by Lakhvinder Singh, a resident of Bajidpur, he runs a motor workshop in Pipli. He stated that Anshdeep and his wife used to visit his workshop for car repairs, during which a familiarity developed between them. Taking advantage of this acquaintance, the accused allegedly offered to send Singh’s son, Navjot, to the US and secure him a job along with a three-year work permit.

The accused demanded a total amount of ₹28 lakh for the process, asking for ₹18 lakh as advance while assuring that the remaining amount could be paid after Navjot reached the US. Trusting their assurances, Lakhvinder Singh transferred approximately ₹12.66 lakh to the accused in multiple transactions and also paid around ₹4.70 lakh in cash at different times.

However, after receiving the money, the accused reportedly began delaying the process and failed to provide any concrete documentation related to the visa or job. When the complainant demanded the return of his money, the accused issued a cheque of ₹3 lakh. After the cheque was cleared, Singh sought the remaining amount, following which he was allegedly threatened with false cases.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections and launched a probe. The accused husband is currently absconding, while efforts are underway to trace him. Police officials said further investigation is ongoing to verify financial transactions and gather additional evidence.
