Mohali. A case of Armenia Work Visa Scam has come to light where a family from Mohali was duped of ₹9.5 lakh on the pretext of sending their son abroad on a work visa. The accused allegedly promised to send the youth to Armenia but failed to provide a valid visa or ticket. Police have registered a case and started investigation.

The complainant Inderjit Singh stated that he contacted a visa consultancy in Ludhiana to send his son Parmeet abroad for work. The consultancy was being run by Harpal Singh, a resident of Samrala Chowk.


Work visa promise, payments started

The accused assured the family that the visa would be arranged within one month and asked for initial payment.

  • ₹50,000 paid to start process
  • Later ₹1 lakh transferred on August 4, 2025
  • ₹1.5 lakh taken in cash during Mohali visit

The accused continued to demand money under different pretexts.


Fake e-visa and no proper documents

According to the complaint:

  • The accused provided an Armenia e-visa
  • Did not show complete documents
  • Demanded full payment without proof

This raised suspicion for the family.


No ticket, false promises

The accused claimed that:

  • Visa was expiring on August 15
  • Ticket would be booked for August 10

However:

  • No ticket was booked
  • No travel arrangement was made
  • The family was kept in the dark

Threats after money demand

When the family started asking for their money back:

  • The accused used abusive language
  • Issued threats
  • Avoided communication

This confirmed the fraud.


Case registered under NRI Wing

The family filed a complaint with the Additional Deputy Director, NRI Wing Punjab.
