Work Visa Scam For ₹13 Lakh, Anti-Immigration Fraud Unit Arrested The Agent
In a major action against overseas job fraud, the Anti-Immigration Fraud Unit has arrested an Ambala resident for allegedly cheating a family of ₹13 lakh on the false promise of sending their son abroad. The accused, identified as Omkar Singh, was produced before a court and has been remanded to three days of police custody for further investigation.
The case was registered at Raipur Rani police station in Panchkula on the complaint of Jasbir Singh, a local resident. According to the police, the remand period will be used to recover the cheated amount and to gather crucial information about other suspects and the wider network involved in such frauds.
As per the complaint, Omkar Singh, along with his wife and son, allegedly lured the complainant by assuring him that they could arrange an Australia work visa for his son. Trusting their claims, the family paid a total of ₹13 lakh over different dates. The payments were reportedly made through a mix of bank transfers and cash, under the pretext of visa processing, air tickets, and other related expenses.
Despite receiving the money, the accused allegedly failed to arrange the promised visa or overseas travel. When the complainant demanded a refund, the accused not only refused but also allegedly issued threats and subjected the family to mental harassment. In an attempt to pacify the complainant, the accused later handed over two cheques amounting to ₹13 lakh, both of which bounced when presented to the bank.
The complaint further alleges that the continuous cheating, intimidation, and stress had a severe impact on the victim’s son. His health reportedly deteriorated over time, and he later died during medical treatment, adding a tragic dimension to the case.
Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and further arrests cannot be ruled out. Authorities have reiterated their appeal to the public to verify the credentials of travel agents before making any payments and to report suspicious activities related to overseas job offers without delay.
