In yet another case highlighting the growing menace of overseas job fraud, police have registered a cheating case against a Madanpur-based agent for allegedly duping a village resident of ₹1.25 lakh by falsely promising employment abroad.

According to officials, the FIR was lodged on Thursday following directions from the court against the accused, identified as Nasir Ali, a resident of Madanpur town. The complainant, Abhijeet Pandey of Bhirwa village, alleged that the agent took money from him on the pretext of arranging a driver’s job in Saudi Arabia but failed to deliver on the promise.

In his complaint filed before the court, Pandey stated that he was actively seeking overseas employment as a driver when he came into contact with Nasir Ali, who claimed to be involved in sending people abroad for work. The agent assured him of securing a driver’s position in Saudi Arabia and demanded ₹1.25 lakh as processing fees.

Pandey alleged that he transferred ₹49,000 online to the agent’s bank account on June 4, 2024, followed by another ₹40,000 on June 28, along with additional payments to complete the agreed amount. The agent initially assured him that he would be sent abroad in July 2024.

However, when the promised timeline passed, the agent allegedly began avoiding him and gave repeated excuses. When Pandey demanded his money back, the agent reportedly refused. The complainant further claimed that when he went to the agent’s residence, Nasir Ali had switched off his mobile phone and absconded.

The complaint also alleges that the accused is part of a larger network involved in cheating multiple people by falsely promising overseas jobs. Despite approaching the police earlier, Pandey claimed that no action was taken at the time, forcing him to seek intervention from the court.

Acting on the court’s order, police have now registered a case of cheating against Nasir Ali. Officials confirmed that the accused has already been named in at least three other fraud-related cases in the past. Additionally, another FIR has been registered against him on the complaint of Shivpratap Yadav, also a resident of Bhirwa village.
