NZ Work Visa Fraud, ₹7.10 Lakh Cheating Case Registered Over False Overseas Visa Promise in Mohali
The NRI Wing of Punjab Police has registered a case of cheating against the owner of an Amritsar-based immigration firm for allegedly defrauding a man of ₹7.10 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. The FIR has been lodged on the directions of the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), NRI Wing, Punjab.
According to official sources, the complainant, Jatinder Singh, a resident of village Dangherian in Fatehgarh Sahib district, approached the NRI Wing with a complaint on October 9, 2025. In his complaint, he alleged that Devinder Singh, owner of Crest Immigration Company located on Airport Road, Amritsar, along with an employee identified as Shikha, promised to secure him a New Zealand visa.
The complainant stated that a total package of ₹8 lakh was agreed upon for arranging the visa. As part of the deal, Jatinder Singh transferred ₹6.10 lakh to the company’s bank account and paid an additional ₹1 lakh in cash. He was assured that the visa would be arranged within two months and that the entire amount would be refunded if the process failed.
However, Jatinder Singh alleged that neither was the visa arranged within the promised time nor was the money returned. When he demanded a refund, the accused allegedly threatened to implicate him in false cases. Subsequently, they stopped responding to his calls altogether.
Following the complaint, a preliminary inquiry was conducted by the NRI Police Station in Mohali. Based on the findings of the inquiry, the ADGP, NRI Wing, granted approval for the registration of an FIR. A case has now been registered against Devinder Singh under relevant sections related to cheating, and further investigation has been handed over to ASI Bachittar Singh.
Police officials said the matter is under investigation and all financial transactions and documents related to the case are being examined. Further action will be taken as per the outcome of the probe.
