New Zealand Work Visa Fraud, Chandigarh Fake Immigration Agent Arrested For Cheating ₹9 Lakh
New Zealand Work Visa Fraud, Panchkula Police have arrested a fake immigration agent for cheating a youth of ₹9 lakh on the false promise of a New Zealand work visa. The accused has been identified as Mandeep Singh, a resident of Mohali, who was running an illegal immigration consultancy in Chandigarh and is already facing multiple criminal cases. According to the police investigation officials, the complainant, a resident of Panchkula, stated that he met Mandeep Singh in June 2023. The accused introduced himself as a certified New Zealand work visa agent and assured the victim of a smooth work visa process, including a job offer, medical clearance, documentation, visa filing, and air tickets. Trusting his words, the victim paid ₹9 lakh in installments over several months.
Police investigations revealed that under the pretext of filing charges, medical fees, job placement, and travel arrangements, the accused Mandeep Singh collected a total of ₹9 lakh from the victim. To win the victim’s confidence, Mandeep Singh allegedly showed a fake job offer letter and forged flight tickets, creating an illusion that the visa process was genuine and complete.
However, when the complainant repeatedly demanded to be sent abroad or requested a refund, the accused began avoiding calls and eventually refused to return the money. It later emerged that the entire process was a scam.
To appear genuine and attract more victims, Mandeep Singh had even opened an office in Sector 17-C, Chandigarh, posing as a legitimate immigration consultant. Following the complaint, a case was registered at Chandimandir Police Station.
Acting swiftly, the Anti-Immigration Fraud Unit, led by in-charge Yogvinder Singh, arrested the accused. He was produced before the court on January 28, where the police secured a three day remand for interrogation. After questioning, the accused was sent to judicial custody.
DCP Panchkula Srishti Gupta stated that the accused is a habitual offender. She revealed that four more criminal cases are already registered against Mandeep Singh in Panchkula and Punjab for cheating aspirants by promising New Zealand Work Visa and Canada Work Visa.
Police officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and verify the credentials of immigration agents before making any payments. Authorities have also advised aspirants to deal only with licensed consultants and to avoid falling for quick overseas job offers that demand large sums of money upfront.
The case once again exposes how fake immigration agents exploit the dreams of unemployed youth and reinforces the need for strict action against such fraud networks.
