Hoshiarpur police have registered a case of fraud after a local resident alleged that he was cheated of ₹8 lakh on the false promise of being sent abroad. The case has been registered at Tanda police station, and an investigation is currently underway.

According to the police, the complainant, Nikhil Kumar, a resident of Garhi Mohalla in Tanda, stated that Gurvinder Singh alias Happy, who also lives in the same locality, assured him of arranging his overseas travel. Trusting the promise, Nikhil allegedly paid a total amount of ₹8 lakh to the accused.

However, despite repeated follow-ups, no progress was made toward sending him abroad. When the accused failed to fulfill his promise or return the money, the victim approached the police and filed a formal complaint.

After a preliminary inquiry, the police found merit in the allegations and registered a case, naming Gurvinder Singh as the accused. Police officials said efforts are being made to trace and arrest the accused, and raids are being conducted at possible locations.

The incident has sparked discussion in the area, once again highlighting the growing number of fraud cases linked to fake immigration and overseas job promises. Police have advised the public to remain cautious and verify the credentials of agents before making any payments. They also urged victims of similar frauds to report such matters immediately so timely action can be taken.
