Promise to send her son to Germany
The complainant told police that she met Naresh Kumar, Poonam, Janvi, Rinku, and later Chanchal Shankar Rai, who claimed they could arrange her son’s travel to Germany. A deal was allegedly finalized for ₹17 lakh, with the condition that half the amount would be paid in advance and the remaining sum after the boy reached abroad.
Trusting their assurances, the woman handed over ₹7 lakh through cheque, ₹35,000 in cash, along with her son’s original documents.
Sent to Nepal, threatened with death
However, instead of being sent to Germany, the accused allegedly sent the youth to Nepal. The victim’s son later revealed that while in Nepal, he was threatened with death and warned not to inform anyone about the situation. Fearing for his life, the youth somehow managed to return safely to India.
When the family approached the accused again, they were allegedly refused a refund and denied the return of documents. The complainant further alleged that the accused also issued death threats to silence them.
FIR registered, probe handed to EOW
Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered at Krishna Gate police station, and an initial investigation was conducted. Considering the financial nature and seriousness of the offense, the case was later transferred to the EO Wing for detailed investigation.
After collecting evidence and verifying financial transactions, the EOW arrested Chanchal Shankar Rai on February 3, 2026, police confirmed.
Police warn against fake immigration agents
A police official said further investigation is underway to trace other accused persons involved in the racket and to recover the money.
