Chandigarh Immigration Firm Trueway Consultants Director, Staff Booked for ₹2.71 Lakh Germany Work-Visa Fraud
The director and staff of a Sector-26 based immigration consultancy have been booked for allegedly cheating two men of ₹2.71 lakh by promising them work visas for Germany, police said on Thursday.
The FIR was registered after Zirakpur resident Gurpreet Singh accused Trueway Consultants and its director Yuvraj Sobti of taking money under the guise of arranging overseas employment for his son and a friend. According to the complaint, the consultancy demanded ₹7 lakh per candidate, asking for an advance of ₹1.70 lakh each, with the remaining amount to be paid once the visas were processed.
Singh told police that a formal agreement was signed committing that both visas would be issued by April 2025. The document also stated that in case of failure, the firm would refund the full amount within four to five weeks after the deadline.
However, when the promised date passed, the complainant alleged that the firm issued fake work permits and soon after, its office abruptly shut down in March 2025. Repeated calls and messages to the consultancy allegedly went unanswered, raising suspicion.
While searching for the accused, the victims located Sobti’s residence in Sunny Enclave, Kharar (Mohali). During the confrontation, Sobti reportedly issued a cheque of ₹3.40 lakh, dated January 31, 2026, but this partial amount did not match the agreed refund. Following this, the victims decided to file an official complaint.
After preliminary inquiry, the Sector 26 Police Station registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust against Sobti and the consultancy staff. Police officials confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway and more victims may emerge as the probe widens.
Authorities have also urged the public to exercise caution while dealing with immigration agents, stressing the importance of verifying licenses, office authenticity, and payment terms before committing large sums. The incident adds to a rising number of fraud cases involving fake work-visa assurances in the Mohali–Chandigarh region.
