In a major crackdown on immigration fraud, the Anti-Immigration Fraud Unit has arrested Gurcharan Singh, a resident of Nawanshahr, Punjab, for allegedly duping several individuals of over ₹48 lakh under the pretext of facilitating work visas abroad. Singh is accused of promising guaranteed overseas employment, preparing fake documents, and illegally withholding passports and educational certificates.

According to the complaint, Singh lured aspiring migrants with assurances of secure visas and work placements. He allegedly issued fake Temporary Resident Cards (TRCs) and even provided biometric appointments and flight details to make the process appear legitimate. Despite collecting a massive sum of ₹48,25,600 from one woman and similarly large amounts from others, none of the applicants were able to travel abroad.

When victims demanded their money back, Singh reportedly went underground, switching off all contact numbers and vanishing along with their original documents. Police reports suggest that Singh also continued to hold several passports and academic credentials of his victims with fraudulent intent.

A raid was conducted at Singh’s village in Punjab, but the accused was found to have fled with his family. After a thorough investigation by the Anti-Fraud Unit, an FIR was registered at Sector-14 Police Station. Gurcharan Singh was later traced and arrested.

Authorities are now probing the role of Singh’s wife and other associates involved in the fraudulent network. The police are also working to recover the embezzled funds and retrieve the seized documents.

The arrest has brought relief to the victims, but officials caution the public to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of immigration agents to avoid falling prey to such scams.
