A serious case of immigration fraud has surfaced from Haryana’s Karnal district, where a youth was allegedly cheated of ₹40 lakh on the false promise of being sent to the United States. Acting on the complaint, police have registered a case against a Kurukshetra-based agent under cheating and Immigration Act provisions.

According to the complaint, the victim, Sompal, a resident of village Sandhir in Karnal district, wanted to travel to the United States in 2024 for better employment opportunities. During this period, he came in contact with Prem Saini, a resident of Govindgarh village in Kurukshetra, who claimed he could arrange Sompal’s entry into the US for a total amount of ₹40 lakh.

Sompal alleged that the accused demanded the entire amount in advance and assured him that all arrangements had been made. Trusting his claims, the victim paid ₹40 lakh before beginning the journey. However, instead of being sent to the US through a legal route, Sompal was allegedly moved through multiple countries and eventually taken to the jungles of Panama.

The complainant stated that while he was stranded there, the accused began pressuring his family to pay additional money. The family was allegedly told that if more money was not arranged, Sompal would not be sent further and would be left in the jungle. When the family refused to pay any more, the accused allegedly arranged for Sompal to be sent back to India.

After returning, Sompal and his family demanded either a refund of the ₹40 lakh or a fresh attempt to send him to the United States. The accused allegedly flatly refused both options and later issued threats. The complainant also alleged that an associate of the accused, Ankit, a resident of Amin village, has been issuing death threats to silence the family.

Sompal further told police that the ₹40 lakh was handed over to Prem Saini through Bhagat Vikram Pal, a resident of Samsipur village in Kurukshetra.

Confirming the development, Butana police station in-charge Rajpal said that an FIR has been registered on the basis of the complaint under sections related to cheating and provisions of the Immigration Act. “The matter is under investigation, and all aspects, including financial transactions and the role of other individuals named in the complaint, are being examined,” he said.

Police officials added that further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
