A case of student visa fraud has come to light after a youth from Haryana was deported from the United Kingdom for using fake educational degrees and forged documents to obtain a UK study visa. Upon his return to India, he was arrested by Indian immigration officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), New Delhi.
The accused has been identified as Arvind Kumar, a resident of Moonak village. He had travelled to the UK on a student visa, which was later found to be secured using fraudulent academic records.
UK Immigration Probe Exposes Fake Documents
According to police officials, Arvind arrived in the UK on January 23. During routine verification, UK immigration authorities in London examined his educational documents and questioned him regarding his academic background.
During the inquiry, it emerged that Arvind had never appeared in any graduation examination. He subsequently admitted that all his academic certificates were forged and had been arranged by an immigration agent.
Following the confirmation of fraud, UK authorities revoked his visa and deported him to India.
Arrested Immediately After Landing in Delhi
On January 24 at around 4:50 am, Arvind landed at Terminal 3 of IGI Airport on Virgin Atlantic flight VS-302 from the UK. He was detained by Indian immigration officials, after which a zero FIR was registered at the airport police station.
The case, along with Arvind’s passport and supporting documents, was later transferred to Moonak police station for further investigation.
Fake Degree Issued in Name of Faridabad University
During the investigation, police recovered educational certificates claiming Arvind had pursued
Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics (2023–2025) from Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth University, Faridabad.
However, authorities confirmed that Arvind had not appeared for any examinations during this period, proving the documents to be fake.
Agent Took ₹19 Lakh to Arrange Fake Degree
In his statement to immigration officials, Arvind revealed that a Karnal based immigration agent, Sombir Singh, had played a key role in arranging the forged documents and facilitating his travel abroad.
The agent allegedly charged ₹19 lakh Indian rupees to prepare the fake educational certificates and secure the UK student visa.
Police Begin Hunt for Agent
The complaint in the case was filed by Dayaram, ASI posted with Immigration of India at IGI Airport. Along with the complaint, authorities submitted:
- Arvind’s passport
- Passenger travel logs and CCTV images
- Deportation documents issued by UK immigration authorities
- Educational certificates related to Class 10, Class 12, and graduation
Moonak police station SHO Brijpal confirmed that Arvind was produced before the court and granted bail. Police are now actively searching for his agent involved in preparing the forged documents.
Rising Concern Over Study Visa Fraud
The incident highlights growing concerns around fake degrees, immigration fraud, and student visa scams, particularly involving unlicensed travel agents promising easy overseas admissions.
Authorities continue to warn students against falling prey to agents offering shortcuts, stating that forged documents often lead to deportation, arrest, and long-term travel bans.
