A travel agent accused of cheating people of lakhs of rupees by falsely promising to send them abroad has been arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The arrest was made while the accused was returning to India from Canada, following a lookout circular issued against him by the police.

According to the Ferozepur district police, the accused has been identified as Karamjit Singh, son of Nishan Singh and a resident of Mattar Utaar village. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajveer Singh said that personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) detained the accused at the airport and immediately informed the Ferozepur police, who later took him into custody.

DSP Rajveer Singh further stated that a named case has also been registered against Gurjant Singh, son of Shingara Singh, a relative of the arrested accused, for his alleged involvement in the fraud.

The case came to light following a complaint filed by Harpreet Kumar, son of Gurdev Chand, a resident of Rukna Basti, Mohanke Hithar. In his complaint, Harpreet alleged that in 2021 he was planning to migrate to Canada when he came in contact with Karamjit Singh and Gurjant Singh, who introduced themselves as immigration agents. The accused allegedly assured him of sending him to Canada and persuaded him to transfer around ₹6 lakh into their accounts.

The complainant said that despite waiting for nearly a year, no progress was made on his visa application. When he demanded a refund, the accused returned ₹2.5 lakh, but ₹3.5 lakh is still pending.

Police officials revealed that a lookout circular had been issued against Karamjit Singh at major railway stations and airports across the country due to his continued absence during the investigation. Following his arrest, the accused will be produced before a court to seek police remand.
