Man Allegedly Duped of ₹7.5 Lakh by Mohali Immigration Company on Promise of Australia Work Visa (Subclass 482)
A resident of Fatehgarh Sahib has accused a Mohali-based immigration firm of defrauding him of ₹7.5 lakh under the pretext of securing an Australian work visa. The victim, Gagandeep Singh, says he exhausted his savings and even pawned his family’s gold to arrange the money, only to be left without a visa, a refund, or any clarity from the company.
According to Gagandeep, who lives in the Sarhind area, the incident began when he came across an advertisement by a well-known immigration company located in Phase-3, Mohali. Having previously worked in England, he decided to pursue an opportunity in Australia and contacted the firm after seeing its promotional posts on social media. The company reportedly assured him that it would arrange a 482 visa—a temporary Australian work visa.
Trusting their promise, Gagandeep paid the entire amount in cash. To meet the total payment, he not only emptied his savings but also pledged the gold jewellery from his home. As a result, he is now compelled to pay a monthly instalment of ₹16,000, a burden that continues even though no visa has been issued.
He alleges that despite countless visits to the company over the course of a year—often spending thousands of rupees on travel—there was no progress on his application. The promised visa was never processed, he was not sent abroad, and his money was not returned. “I did not complain earlier because I genuinely believed they would send me,” he said, adding that he later realised the company frequently changes its name whenever clients begin to raise objections.
With no resolution in sight, Gagandeep finally filed a formal complaint at Mataur Police Station. Station House Officer Amandeep Singh Kamboj confirmed that the complaint has been received and that an investigation is underway. “We are verifying all allegations. If fraud is established, strict action will be taken against the company owners and anyone involved,” the SHO said.
