In a stern warning to fake visa agents operating in the city, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chandigarh has directed all immigration and visa consultancy firms to submit their verification details to the respective SDM offices immediately. Only 43 Out of 149 Immigration Firms are verified, the administration has emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against those who fail to comply.
According to official data, there are 149 immigration firms currently operating under the South-West Division of Chandigarh, but only 43 have been verified so far. The remaining firms are under review, raising serious concerns about the growing number of unregistered consultants misleading people with false promises of overseas opportunities.
Every day, several residents fall victim to fraud schemes, losing lakhs of rupees to unauthorized immigration agents who lure them with fake job offers, student visas, and permanent residency claims. While the police continue to claim strict action against such offenders, the reality paints a different picture — unverified agents continue to operate openly across the city.
The DC has urged the public to remain cautious and verify the credentials of any visa consultant before making payments or signing agreements.
